We’re going through a heat wave here in BC that’s breaking records all the way back to the 40’s and 50’s! So this morning when my husband and son left for work, I decided that if I was going to go for a bike ride today, it had better be early. As I was traveling happily over hill and dale, I began to feel thirsty. At one point–at the top of a big hill–I happened to glance over at the side of the road only to see a plastic container almost overflowing with FRESH, CLEAN-LOOKING water, sitting on the edge of a flower bed! It looked so inviting–at least to someone who had stupidly forgotten to bring a water bottle along on the hottest day of the year!

As I looked longingly at that clear, sparkling water, I noticed that the bucket had a simple message written on the side. It said, “Thirsty dog?”

As I rode on, I felt a tiny glow in my heart. Someone in my neighborhood was operating with initiative–on Level D–and not only were dogs going to benefit from the kind and caring act. Despite the fact that the water was not for me, and I was still thirsty, I HAD been given a perfect example to use, when explaining the highest level of the Hierarchy to my students this fall.

As I pedaled home to enjoy a refreshing glass of water, the thought occurred to me: Examples of the DISCIPLINE without STRESS levels are everywhere–you just have to be looking with awareness to see them!
