Currently, I work as a yard duty in the cafeteria and on the playground. I picked up this book for ideas on how to create a more positive environment at school. Our school has a reward/consequence system that leaves me feeling like a dictator. I am tired of dishing out punishments and know there's a better way to handle things. Thank you for passing down the skills in this book. I'm sure I can effect more students positively now, making all of our time together more enjoyable.

I'm also glad that I found this post so that I can best understand how I can utilize the skills in the job I have. While I plan on finishing my degree and obtaining my credentials in the not too far off future, I need a good set of skills now. I believe this book is very beneficial for anyone who works with or has children.

This sounds like fantastic advice.

I especially love the way responsibilty for a child's actions have been put back on them by asking them to acknowledge what they did; how it made the other child feel, or how it broke a rule; and the asking them to describe what the consequence is.

This has to be more effective than an adult stepping in, stopping whatever is happening and sending the offending child straight to punishment.
